Be A Social Media Southpaw

Baseball season is upon us and again I'm reminded that one day I will teach my children to throw left-handed. Lefties are unique and therefore valued. Approximately 1 in 10 people are left-handed, yet over 25% of major league pitchers are left-handed.

So what does this have to do with your business and your online presence? Well, there is value in being unique. More and more people are jumping on the social media bandwagon everyday, but what will seperate them from the hundreds of millions of other people already there? A brand name? A nice website? Fancy graphics? Nope, nope, and nope.

What rises to the top of social media is uniqueness and authenticity (a righty trying throw left-handed isn't going to be all that successful and people can spot them from a mile away). Are you doing something that hasn't been done before? It doesn't take a huge budget to be unique. Creativity and hardwork goes a long way in the digital realm.

Businesses are great at exchanging and even taking. Uniqueness is created through giving. This blog is an opportunity for us to give you some information that is hopefully of value to your business.

I tweeted an article a week ago that stated more companies are abandoning their blogs. It's not that hard to believe. Coming up with content on a regular basis is difficult to do and time consuming, but it makes you stand out. Giving is an extremely important part of the online economy.

Giving encourages reciprocation (and not the kind of reciprocation I blogged about earlier). Instead, giving to add value to a prospect's experience makes them more likely to purchase from you in the future.
